Toby the Frog

Deep in the heart of Africa, where the golden sand meets the sea, lived Toby the Frog. The sun was hot and bright, beating down on a coastline that sparkled under a clear blue sky. Toby loved his home in the estuary, where the waves would crash down against the shore like the beat of a drum. He spent his days jumping, hopping, and dancing through the water, feeling the cool splash against his skin.

Toby was no ordinary frog. He was incredibly bright—so bright, in fact, that he practically glowed like a light bulb! More than just his looks, Toby was as clever as a wizard. He was always full of tricks and loved nothing more than to surprise his friends with his quick wit. In the magical estuary, surrounded by trees with leaves as big and soft as pillows and flowers that bloomed in every colour of the rainbow, Toby was a master of his environment.

One day, while Toby was exploring the water, he noticed something terrible. A dark, thick substance was meandering through the estuary. It was oil, and it was slowly taking up more and more of the beautiful sea. Toby felt a wave of sadness wash over him as he watched the dark stain spread. He was worried that it would damage the beauty of his home and hurt the creatures that lived there.

At first, Toby felt a little bit unsure of what to do. The problem seemed so big! But then, his clever mind started to whirr. He was a wizard of a frog, after all. He began to think up a plan that was as brilliant as his glowing skin. He realized that if they could build a dam across the estuary, they could block the oil and catch it on top of the water before it spread any further.

Toby knew he couldn't do it alone. He hopped away to gather his friends from all over the coastline. He called out to the beavers, the other frogs, and even the birds. 'We must work together to save our home!' he told them. The animals listened to Toby because they knew how clever he was. Soon, a whole team of creatures was ready to help him carry out his master plan.

The work began with a great flurry of activity. Toby directed the animals to collect everything they would need. They gathered sturdy sticks and branches from the shoreline. Most importantly, they collected the giant, soft pillow leaves from the trees near the water's edge. Toby showed them exactly how to weave the sticks and the soft leaves together to create a barrier that would catch the oil floating on the surface.

Everything was going well until the sky darkened and the wind began to howl. Suddenly, some big waves came crashing in, and the sea became quite rough and choppy. It felt very dangerous to be near the water. Toby, being the clever leader he was, told everyone to stop. They had to wait for a few hours for the waves to calm down, but they didn't waste a single second. While they waited, they kept on collecting more leaves and sticks.

Finally, the waves began to calm down. The drum-like crashing turned back into a gentle splash. 'Now!' Toby cried. The animals moved quickly, dragging their materials to the water. They carefully put the dam in place across the estuary. It was a magnificent structure made of wood and soft, giant leaves, stretching from one side of the bank to the other, ready to meet the meandering oil.

The dam started to work immediately! The dark oil was caught by the thick pillow leaves and sticks, held back from the rest of the estuary. The fish, who had been covered in oil and feeling very distressed, were suddenly safe. They were so elated that they began to jump and bounce up and down out of the water in celebration. Toby watched them, his little frog heart full of pride for what they had achieved.

The estuary was protected, and Toby had saved the day for all the creatures. Further out at sea, a tanker was still leaking oil, but Toby hoped that soon it would be gone and the leak could be fixed properly. For now, the animals were happy and safe in their beautiful home. Toby the Clever Frog sat on a giant pillow leaf, looking out at his rainbow coastline, knowing they could always protect their special place together.
